"Far West Rice showed great initiative in going solar. They have a system now that sets the green standard in the rice industry and gives them a competitive advantage that will only grow as electricity prices increase."

Renewable energy hybrid systems should help to reduce the need for energy storage. Having different energy systems work together is like being in a community where people help each other overcome difficulties. It makes good sense and helps to solve intermittancy problems associated with renewable energy production.

Are the steam turbines powered by the solar thermal AND the biofuels? Or does the solar thermal use a stirling engine or separate generator?

Solar thermal hot water can be used to preheat boiler water on any conventional power plant. The fuel burned is then reduced by the amount of solar power available. This is a great idea for new plants as there is usually plenty of local waste biomass available.
