Glad to see this topic covered here. Thanks. I'm a member of a renewable energy cooperative in Mass - Coop Power - which is banding together to build local/member-owned RE assets. Never heard of Community Choice, and wish it were in effect here, but to my knowledge it is not. My understanding is that under deregulation, municipalities in this state were required to agree not to get into the energy generation business. Some towns found a way to opt out and did so, but they are few and far flung.

One is the Town of Hull, on the beach just south of Boston. They own a single utility scale wind turbine and are planning to install a second, it's been that successful. The town coffers are awash in cash and they're going to pay off that first turbine way ahead of schedule.

So instead it's up things like coops to develop small scale renewables. And we will, but more slowly than if municipalities could participate more fully.

Erik Hoffner

Umm.. that should read 50 cents per KWhr.... (but the 28 cents per KWHr is available now, with WA based inverter).

Re: Washington state:

"However, the system is still not up and running due to delays in the regulatory process. "

Note sure your source here, but as I understand it, the system is working well. We can't get the 50 cents+ until WA made solar modules are available, but Silicon Energy is working on that....

Tim Economu

Erik, MA is one of the four states that has a Community Choice law. The Cape Light Compact is in fact one of the biggest aggregators in the country.
