And yet, not really that different in results.
What it all comes down to is various forms of incinerators.
http://greyfalcon.net/cellulosics.png

And not different at all, with their broad interpretation of what counts as "waste".
http://greyfalcon.net/perlack
http://greyfalcon.net/peaksoil

Keep reading people, it's getting better every day ! These companies are demonstrating why we need children and teachers devoted to understanding the needs of a markedly different future global society. One that works in devotion to our only home, not in detriment.

My chief concern is whether we're acting sustainably, which requires greater definition. If we harm any living thing in order to make our living - then it's probably not sustainable. If, on the other hand we are adding restorative behaviors to our behavior, then we've got something.

Regardless, let's each do our part to reduce our consumption across the board, like I talk about on my blog Cut20.com. In the meantime, I'll see you out there... on my bike, of course ! - JD Howell, Eugene, OR

Interesting! however, there IS enough usable solar energy striking the earth every day to provide far more energy than we will ever be able to use. The trick is to handle the intermittency and storage problems - and, conversion of solar energy to mobile energy! Probably by battery-powered electric vehicles, if new battery technology can be developed. When photovoltaic can compete with power off the grid, an energy revolution will occur, with locally generated power largely negating the grid. Biofuels are nice, but where is the "new" water going to come from? Still many ?'s out there!

What we need is a neat table of how green various bio-fuels are. This must take into account where/how it is being grown, by this I mean whether farmers are being 'encouraged' to switch from food crops to ethanol farming or whether forests are being cleared for ethanol bio-fuel.

One of the main problems that must cause us all to sit-up and take strong objection to, is GE (genetically engineered) biofuels. These crops beside the hazards they pose, also add to global warming, use of more water, pesticides & herbicides.

It is about time all of us begin to approach the problems of our planet, avoiding being blinkered by narrow walls of sectoral interests, and instead employ holistic solutions; otherwise we risk a situation where the solution is worse than the problem.
