The article "A grand plan for solar energy" in Scientific American, Jan '08, is a real eye opener. I know we can't sell the Bush administration on it, but getting this going in '09 should be a national pfriority. Read it and comment, please.

This may be an urban legend and perhaps someone in web-land has some first hand information on the subject.

Many years ago, a wave energy device was prototyped and tested. They were, if I remember, called bobbing ducks and they were long cylinders with a cross section looking much like a comma (the puntuation mark). As the waves hit them, they were pushed over and then bobbed back and the motion between the "duck" and its moring was used to extract energy.

The proposal went to the ministry for approval and some clerk, when doing the calculations, made a decimal error, making it look as if the ducks were an order of magnitude less effective. The idea was scrapped and by the time the error was discovered, people had moved on and the idea never revived. Anyone have first hand information.
