AREVA Signs 400-MW Deal with PROKON

Paris, France [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] AREVA, through its subsidiary Multibrid, has announced that is will supply PROKON Nord with 80 of its 5-megawatt (MW) wind turbines for the offshore wind farm Borkum West II. The expected sales will exceed EUR500 million (USD $735.2 million).

The wind farm is located north of the Borkum Island in the North Sea. AREVA will deliver its M5000 turbines during 2010 and 2011. This announcement comes in the wake of the decision made by Trianel, an association comprising German urban electric utilities, to join forces with PROKON Nord in the Borkum West II project, a 400-MW wind farm.

Way to go Borkum-West II project ! With fast increasing capacities of wind farms, offshore and onshore, it is not too far when we shall hear about 1000 MW or larger wind.Unless the PTC and investment credits are improved and renewed, our wind projects shall start to slow down soon.
