It's nice to see large solar installations, though I can't help but think how much better the return on investment would be for solar thermal. This installation might make sense if it leads to PV installations on businesses and homes.

It is great to have such large corporations involed in India where there is abundent sun resourse, about 200 clear sunny days in a year, about 2300 - 3200 sunshine hours per year, depending upon location. According to some studies This is far more than current total energy consumption. For example, even assuming 10% conversion efficiency for PV modules, it will still be thousand times greater than the likely electricity demand in India by the year 2015.
