Interstate Power and Light Purchases Iowa Wind Site

Cedar Rapids, Iowa [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Interstate Power and Light Co. (IPL), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy, announced that it has acquired a wind development site in north central Iowa from Wind Capital Group, LLC.

The site, located in Franklin County Iowa, has the potential to produce up to 200 megawatts (MW) of wind power when completely developed. IPL expects to invest approximately $360 to $440 million to add up to 200 MW of by 2010. "The acquisition of this site located in the heartland of Iowa provides a significant economic development opportunity for our company and the state of Iowa," said Tom Aller, president of IPL. "Wind generation is critical to our company's long-term generation growth strategy and continues to serve as the centerpiece of Iowa's growing renewable energy economy."
