Horizon Wind Energy Orders 201 MW of Turbines

Meridian Way is being developed and will be constructed, owned and operated by Horizon Wind Energy, a project developer based in Houston, Texas. Horizon is a fully owned subsidiary of Energias de Portugal, S.A., a major Portuguese utility and one of the world’s largest renewable energy generators.

By the end of 2007, Horizon will have developed more than 2,000 MW and will be operating wind power plants with a total installed capacity of over 1,300 MW. Horizon is currently developing a portfolio of more than 9,000 MW in over a dozen states in the U.S.

“At both state and federal levels, we are witnessing growing concerns over energy security and climate change, which, in turn, translate into increasing interest in wind power as a clean, reliable and competitive way of generating electricity,” said Jens Søby, President of Vestas Americas A/S.

The order includes the supply and commissioning of the turbines, and a five-year service and maintenance agreement. Delivery of the 67 wind turbines will begin in mid-year 2008, and commissioning is expected to be completed in 2008.
