These guys are in FL so it may well be 50-80% of a home's heating bill.

What an odd choice of words. I presume they mean the water heating portion of their bill.

I'm thinking they let their potential customers presume what they want - the bigger the number the better.

Probably just a slip, but at first blush the impression isn't good - inaccurate at best and misleading at worst.
