"The hydropower industry is primed for responsible growth at a time when policymakers are seeking sound solutions to the climate change problem. In fact, a recently released report by the Electric Power Research Institute estimates that hydropower can add at least another 23,000 megawatts by the year 2025, with a total growth potential of nearly 90,000 megawatts."

I live along the Ohio river. There are already dams in place for navigation and flood control that are not producing electricity, but were designed for future installation of power. This would appear to be a good place to start.

I agree that potential hydro power is mature including run off river.

However the kinetic hydro power is not there yet it is very in it infancy. It is a virtually fogotten energy source. It is free flow hydro power.

If we can tap 1mw/km then then just the mighty MS river alreadythe there are almost 6 gigawatts (10 nuclear reactors).

Device such as Tyson turbine, electric water wheel or neo-aerodynamic would be starting points.

Phi

Unfortunately, this is part of the Liberal Party's plan to sell off the infrastructure of BC. It's already divested the ferries and the railroad, electricity is "in process" with deals like this one. Health care is next... They've also switched to fixed election cycles, which are much more friendly to corporate take-over than the messy habit of "no contest" elections at any time. Look what fixed election cycles has done for the US, where a total of nearly $50 million has been raised by the two Democratic front-runners alone! I want my renewable energy small and decentralized. This is just a big-business boondoggle, and yet another government hand out to its corporate welfare clients.
