Thank you Hemlock. The PV industry is booming at ten times the rate of the polycrystalline silicon industry, no matter the improvements in efficiency and manufacturing for PV, if the base supply (Poly-Si)necessary to make PV costs over $100 a kilogram and rising then the cost per watt of solar will not be able to drop enough to remain competitive. Companies may be reluctant to invest in silicon processing plants with the recent attention being paid to thin film technologies (CIGS, amorphous silicon, and cadmiun telluride) but those are still years off from commercial availability, they are at this point less effecient, and CIGS and CT are made from rare elements that could run low quickly when mass production comes online. Traditional (yet improving) PV modules will be in the game for decades to come and the silicon problem needs to be addressed now. Nice work Hemlock, now any other takers?

So at what point does silicon become too abundant, and prices collapse? For example, the great DRAM bubble of a few years ago? I wonder if that would be the time to invest in solar panels...
