EPA Releases Top 25 Green Power Purchasers

In the GPP, more than 700 organizations are voluntarily purchasing in excess of 8.9 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually. Combined, these purchases from the top 25 largest EPA Green Power Partners that help drive the development of additional green power resources nationwide amount to 5.6 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually, more than 60 percent of the green power commitments made by all EPA Green Power Partners.

The first 10 of the Top 25 GPP include: 1. PepsiCo (100%: various forms of renewable energy); 2. Wells Fargo & Company (42%: wind); 3. Whole Foods Market (100%: biomass, geothermal, small-hydro, solar, wind); 4. U.S. Air Force (4%: Biomass, Geothermal, Solar, Wind); 5. Johnson & Johnson (39%: biomass, small-hydro, solar, wind); 6. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (100%: biogas, biomass, geothermal, wind); 7. Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts (57%: biogas); 8. Starbucks (20%: wind); 9. DuPont Company (4%: Wind); 10. U.S. Department of Energy (3%: biomass, geothermal, wind).

The rest of the GPP include, in order: Vail Resorts, HSBC North America, Cisco Systems, Inc., Staples, New York University, The World Bank Group, University of Pennsylvania, IBM Corporation, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, NatureWorks LLC, Sprint Nextel, Safeway Inc., Pennsylvania State University, Kohl's Department Stores and Nike, Inc.
