Fresno Yosemite International Airport will house 2 MW solar energy system.
Pennington, New Jersey [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] WorldWater & Power Corp. has been awarded a 20-year solar electric power purchase contract by the Fresno City Council for the sale of solar electricity from a 2-megawatt (MW) solar electric power system to be located at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport.
In total, Fresno is projected to save nearly $13 million in energy costs over 25 years.
Fresno selected WorldWater to design, build and operate the solar PV array system, which is expected to eventually provide up to 40% of the airport's annual power consumption.

Be sure to try keep the PV arrays out from under the flight path or up wind from the approach. Georgetown University, Washington DC, has had to clean their 300 KW array with solvents and power washing to get the oily residue from the un-combusted jet fuels off the modules every five years. This problem is less frequent with the new cleaner jet engines. They used to loose up to 40% of their power and then would have to have them professionally cleaned. Fortunatly, Fresno-Yosemite Airport won't have the traffic that Ronald Reagan has.
