"But seizing this chance requires an immediate and major acceleration of efforts on two fronts: mitigation measures (such as reductions in emissions of greenhouse gases and black soot) to prevent the degree of climate change from becoming unmanageable; and adaptation measures (such as building dikes and adjusting agricultural practices) to reduce the harm from climate change that proves unavoidable."

Climate Change

Climate change is a serious event,
We cannot say it is heaven sent,
Though in the sky the heat's contained,
Our actions are the ones to blame,
The carbon fuels we daily burn,
We really don't have much concern,
"It's just so little and the world is so big",
We don't care a feather or a fig,
But slowly like the hare and tortoise,
The heat creeps up and rigor mortis,
Sets in to our continuing wasteful ways,
We don't even notice the gathering haze,
The rising waters, the deserts expand,
The violent winds, the useless lands,
A mockery we have made of our Earth,
But the joke is on us, for all it is worth.

The Terra Preta Prayer

Our Carbon who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name
By kingdom come, thy will be done, IN the Earth to make it Heaven.
It will give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our atmospheric trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against the Kyoto protocols
And lead us not into fossil fuel temptation, but diliver us from it's evil
low as we walk through the valley of the shadow of Global Warming,
I will feel no evil, your Bio-fuels and fertile microbes will comfort me,
For thine is the fungal kingdom,
and the microbe power,
and the Sequestration Glory,
For ever and ever (well at least 2000 years)
AMEN

Terra Preta Soil Technology;
Carbon Negative Bio fuels,Ammoia Scrubbing for Fossil Fuels,1/3 reduction in CH4& N2O soil emissions and 3X Fertility Too.

"The global-average surface temperature is now about 0.8 degrees C above its level in 1750, with most of the increase having occurred in the 20th century and the most rapid rise occurring since 1970'
WOW...0.8 DEGREES since 1750...whose monitoring equipment did they use then; where were the global monitoring stations then,

Since 1970, the rise in Aviation and jet contrails into the upper atmosphere has significantly modified radiative forcing; and it's not the CO2, but plain ole' water vapour(92% of the stratosphere).

Do I see Al Gore stopping flying?

nope, nor any of the other celebrity environmentalists.

Lots of scientific skepticism about the rise in temps. and alternative theories about increases in solar radiation and other factors.

We desparately need a global debate between proponents and skeptics with plausible alternative theories before we all have to hold our breath one hour every week.

Unfortunately the Executive Summary of this report comes across with an alarmist "the sky is falling" message, which is bound to alienate skeptics who are inclined to agree that the whole warming trend is caused by natural forces. Chapter 1 changes tone, however, and presents very compelling information in a much more balanced way. This is recommended reading.

There is much we don't know about the natural forces that govern the earth, so any assertion that we are *absolutely* causing global warming lacks credibility. But the correlation between steeply rising CO2 concentration and our usage of fossil fuels is hard to ignore. Do we really have anything to lose by assuming we contribute to global warming?

It's true, our dirty little civilization is NOT the cause of what's happening on other planets in our solar system. However, we are responsible for the pollution that we are creating on Earth, which is a part of what is creating this warming here.

We have all the alternatives we need to shift HOW we live and work and still keep most of our "luxuries".

We need to base our decsions on how it could affect multiple generations into the future.

We have allowed money to be the final decision regardless of the consequences.

"We are not inheriting this planet from our forefathers, we are borrowing it from our children."

We need to start electing committed and qualified people, top specialists in their fields and not from people whose only agenda, once elected, to get re-elected. These people must be displaced to create openings for powerful long term solutions in action.

Hey Chuck,I looked at your array. That's very nice. When the tree grows to the point where its shading the panels will you cut it down or just live with the reduced output? Also make a note, people sound less extreme and more educated when they don't use expletives. When people rely on emotions instead of facts that also counts against them.

France is having second thoughts on whether or not global warming is man made. http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=2f4cc62e-5b0d-4b59-8705-fc28f14da388
Mars' temperatures are rising at the same rate as earth's. Maybe there is more (or less) to this story than the current hype. It doesn't look like we can conclusively say that man is the cause of Global warming yet.

CONT.
OR ELSE, explain to the kids you see, either your own or others, that you don't believe what is being said and that you are so very important the whole of creation is just for this generation. Do you break out in a sweat trying desperately to get more than everyone else? You should be ashamed of yourselves. Climate change is happening, the cod are gone, there are very few large trees any more, cigarettes do cause cancer. Be sceptical of the newspapers you read and the ads you see. Unconstrained consumption cannot go on forever. Start taking care of our only planet, we won't get another chance.

Cod stocks wont dissappear, there are enough trees to last forever, cigarettes dont cause cancer and on and on. Questions for the sceptics, how much is enough? When will you reach the point of not gorging yourself on energy like some spoiled brat and justifying it by denying that there is a problem? The earth may seem enormous to us but viewed from another planet or out in the universe we will realize that it is just a small speck. Yet that small speck is humans only chance of survival. Grow up!! Do some research on ice cores,it's happening wheather you like it or not.

I wonder; suppose someone gave you a gun and said, it has bullets in it but they may be blanks but they may also be real. However, every time you point it at yourself and pull the trigger you get to eat a piece of the worlds most delicious candy. If you don't, you will never have another piece of that candy again until you invent a new delicious candy to replace it. As far as I can tell, people by the numbers would rather pull the trigger than try to come up with a new, maybe even more delicious tasty candy.

Deserts spreading, water rising, do we need more signs?
But some will say "we're not to blame" then do as they think fine,
We're in this all together for on Earth that we must live,
We need to find solutions, not to take but now to give.

We know the nature of a man admitting any shame,
He often says "another reason is the one to blame,
"Naturally our atmospheric cycle does the warming,
It could not be the acts of men our atmosphere is harming."

We cannot use excuses to restrict decisions needed,
We must act quickly as we can and warnings should be heeded,
Our atmosphere around the Earth is given to our care,
Pollution in one place affects the freshness of all air.

Some say that global warming is not caused by excess heat,
But by the cycles of the Earth which at intervals repeat,
This type of thinking makes excuse for what is going on,
It leads to doing nothing to correct a blatant wrong.

Hives of bees that pollinate our many plants and crops,
Are dying out right now, where do we set the stops,
For like canaries in a mine that indicate a danger
The bees on Earth remind us that our air's becoming stranger.

Closed Systems

When riding in an airplane and before we should arrive,
Should someone sneeze it would displease the people there inside,
For now the air is carrying germs and viruses for sure,
If breathed into the lungs attack the passengers on tour.

We have laws to stop the smoke in many public places,
We know that smoke from cigarettes is harmful to all races,
It took tobacco many years to own up to their guilt,
While suffering and pain from cancer hurted to the hilt.

We share our atmosphere today, the air is breathed by all,
Whatever goes into the sky's not easy to recall,
The actions of an industry in causing air pollution,
Results in harm to all mankind we must seek a solution.

Germs or dust or heat released, in nature we've surpassed,
By causing products to release their harmful soot or gas,
The start is to admit the guilt that we have been the cause,
Then take quick action to control, no longer wait or pause.

While I will not argue with the fact that the earth experiences global warming every 1,500 years, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that there are major factors that are different this time around. First, humans are contriubuting to the production of carbon dioxide on a grander scale than ever before in the history of "global warming cycles. Secondly, our population is significantly higher. Regardless of your beliefs about climate change, the impact is real. There will be a shortage of fresh water. Arguments over humans contributing to the problem is insignificant. Thoughtful action is paramount.

-real scientists should stop demonizing carbon dioxide and take time to explain that carbon dioxide constitutes only 0.036 percent of the atmosphere, that until carbon dioxide appeared in the atmosphere there was no oxygen and that today carbon dioxide is the source of oxygen that makes life possible on earth.
- Real scientists would advise the public to become informed not by listening to Al Gore or the evening news but by reading books such as "Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1,500 Years" by Dennis T. Avery and S. Fred Singer,
"the skeptical environmentalist' by Bjorn Lomborg and the writings of Professor Lindzen of MIT to start.

-real scientists would be highly critical of Al Gore's use of the 'hockey stick' misrepresentation of the earth's recent climate history as it has been discredited by two separate studies, one requested by the US Congress, and his hyping of future disasters, none of which are supported by scientific studies.
-real scientists would refute the media's almost nightly reporting that Antarctica is warming while showing pictures of icebergs calving from a single peninsula when the fact is that NOAA has reported and scientific studies show that Antarctica is cooling and the icepack is growing.

-real scientist would insure that the public is aware that the IPCC scientific reports are based on computer generated projections using human developed climate theories, human developed climate models and human developed assumptions on the future climate activity and are still subject to the first rule of all forecasts "garbage in, garbage out." This is easily illustrated by the 2005 and 2006 six month in advance computer generated hurricane forecasts for the United States. Using the best available data, the best assumptions and the latest computer programing the 2005 forecast grossly underestimated and the 2006 forecast grossly overestimated the number, strength and location of hurricanes to strike the United States. If computer generated programs are so absolutely wrong in forecasting six months in advance why should 50-100 year forecasts be used to introduce costly and probably ineffective changes

The lack of common sense and scientific honesty in the 'mankind causes global warming' mythology defies reason. Even a modicum of common sense would require that all 'scientific' writings on 'global warming' would start with a review or summary of the cyclical swings between Ice Ages and Warm Periods that have occurred on earth over hundreds of millions if not billions of years. This would be followed immediately by explanations of how and why the such dramatic shifts in climate occurred without human input of 'greenhouse' gases.
With regard to scientific honesty a number of things need to be done:
-real scientists would refer to the latest IPCC scientific report prepared by the gaggle of 'scientists' which actually reduced and lowered significantly the 'doom and gloom' scenarios of their previous 'scientific' report's, not on hyping the politicized summary report prepared by nonscientific bureaucrats.

For those who prefer movies about climate change to reading spend hour or so watching:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9005566792811497638&q=great+global+warming+swindle&hl=en. It is very enlightening, particularly as the co-founder of Greenpeace sums things up near the end of the movie.
