It is critical that the United States forge a national energy policy that boldly commits to new energy technologies and innovations, and creates new opportunities for economic growth and international competitiveness.

This is great that so many companies, their CEOs and industry trade groups are weighing in on the side of proactive steps to protect our climate, but one of the greatest steps we could take and one that would also help with a slew of other ailments is the greater implementation of mass transit. We would move closer to President Bush's goal of reducing oil imports from the Mideast by 75% by 2020, people would spend less time commuting to work each morning and we would have better air quality in our major cities.
