Siemens Wind Power Exceeds 1,400 MW of Orders in the U.S.

Recently Siemens was awarded an order from Airtricity to supply 55 units of its SWT-2.3-93 wind turbine for the Roscoe wind farm in Texas. Siemens is to deliver, install, commission and test the wind turbines. Siemens entered into a five-year service, maintenance and warranty agreement for the wind farm. Installation will take place from early August through November 2007, with the project handover scheduled for mid-January 2008.

Siemens, which also received contracts for two other projects in Texas, will supply equipment and service to Airtricity for the Forest Creek Wind Farm in Sterling City. The Siemens scope of supply includes 54 SWT-2.3-93 turbines, totaling approximately 125 MW, as well as a turbine supply agreement, and a service, maintenance and warranty agreement.

Another order in the state of Texas comes from RES, for which Siemens will supply 46 of its SWT-2.3-93 turbine generators for a total of 106 MW, as well as wind turbine supply, and service, maintenance and warranty agreements. These turbines will be an extension of the existing Sweetwater Wind Farm, which will then have a total capacity of over 500 MW.

"Once all of the Siemens units are completed and operating at Sweetwater, the United States will have surpassed the 10,000 MW mark in wind energy," said Randy Zwirn, president and CEO of Siemens Power Generation, Inc. and member of the PG Group Executive Management. "Only two other countries, Germany, with 19,000 MW, and Spain, with 10,000 MW, have reached this level of wind power capacity."
