"Passage of the CLEAN Act is a signal of change ... but this is only the first step. Our nation needs to undertake a crash program that makes America the leader in clean energy technology."

I will vote Nancy Pelosi for president should she decide to run in 2008. She has been a most outspoken representative on this issue and is deserving of being at the highest level of government service. I don't think we could go wrong with her as she has demonstrated good, clear thinking time and again on many issues.

It's about time!. While oil companies have been recording record profits over the past two years renewables have been in the wings wainting for something like this to happen. It is a baby step in the right direction and I hope there will be more incentives for renewable energy projects.

Change In Policy

Renewable progress in our US congress shows that we are moving ahead,
This congress we need by fixed signature deed to establish our future in red,
The ink has been signed and congress now inclined bending ear to our past constant pleas,
"Renewables sources are do-able courses if only you give us the fees",
Removing the tax break from oil goodness sake should have long been congressional role,
Today now good progress and finally to address dependence from oil and from coal,
For pampering oil is no way to toil we must change from breaks past presented,
Oil stands on its own it is strong and full grown to continue handouts is resented,
Renewables need so as not to impede future growth into producing power,
For the past is the past and to move on at last is the gift needed most in this hour.

I was hoping to read what tax breaks had been repealed.

Rich: once you take into account the tax breaks and subsidies and the proportion of US forces dedicated to protecting the US oil supply, the Rocky Mountain institute calculates that you are already paying $4 for your gas. Its just that you pay $3 in tax and $1 at the pump.

Ideally you would actually pay $4 at the pump and get the equivalent back in reduced taxes, and eliminate all the oil subsidies, but would you trust a politician to do that and not sneak the money into his own pocket on the way past! However in a perfect world the real cost of gas would move the consumer into less wasteful usage and buying the vastly more efficient cars not available from Detroit.. You all end up with more money in your pockets.

Maybe finally I will be able to attract some help to bring-forth our ECO-Cycle ECO-Engine technology for intermediate temp solar thermal-to-cooling and electric power for homes and major chains. Thank you Lakeland Electric for leading the way in placing metered solar thermal (hot H2O) distributed generation residentially. www.eco-energygroup.com

Oil companies are not our enemy and hopefully aren't being strongarmed. I don't want to pay $ 4 or 5 at the pump nearterm due to more euphoric short term political action. We have enough of that kind of thinking already. Large energy companies have to be part of an integrated solution.

Agreed, Ken. Here's a link to a recent NPR interview about it. Its not specific, doesn't break down gas vs oil or anything, but does have what Congress is going after.
