Vahrenholt also announced a short-term decision on Bremerhaven as the site for the serial production of the offshore turbine REpower 5M, to start as early as 2007.

If he's talking about 300 5MW wind turbines, he's not
going to ever come close to producing 1500 MW of electricity. When will the wind proponents stop coming
out with these bogus claims of expected productivity. This
gives wind opponents one more argument against wind power.

kerry beauchrt, the nameplate rating of the generator in a wind turbine is a thirty year old convention, exactly like any other generator such as a coal plant or a gas turbine. capacity factor describes the annual production. No wind advocate ever claimed that wind's capacity factor equals a conventional plant, but then wind doesn't pay fuel costs.

And when the stiff, consistent winds of the North Sea are powering 300 of REpower's 5M turbines, you can bet there will be thousands of hours/yr with 1500MW peak production.
