Estimated investment in the project totals Euro 250 million [US$3.3 million] to give polysilicon capacity of 2,500 tons/year, equivalent to 250 MW of PV modules per year.
The agreement also furthers commercialization of projects designed to demonstrate concentrating photovoltaic technology (CPV) and calls for a new polysilicon plant to be built in Spain.
ENDESA, Isofoton and the regional Andalusian government will develop and construct Silicio Energia, the polysilicon plant, in Cadiz, southern Spain, to meet demand for this raw material as well as guarantee both companies' supply needs.
Development on Silicio Energia, whose power will be supplied by ENDESA, will begin within the next few months with operation expected in 2009. Estimated investment in the project totals Euro 250 million [US$3.3 million] to give polysilicon capacity of 2,500 tons/year, equivalent to 250 MW of PV modules per year.
