Dear Jim,

I have the power to veto SB1. $320M / 36M PEOPLE.. Where will you spend your $8.89 this year? Tell you what...if I'm in CA next year...I'll be you a burrito.

On a more serious note...if you are implying that the oil and gas industries were not founded with or to this day do not receive assistance from the government, than you are mistaken. A fledging industry like solar needs help, and we will give it to them.

Arnie is popular? It must be the $320 million per year in corporate welfare checks that he is giving them.

I hope that this guy isn't playing re-election tactics cause I'm pro RE and would hate to see his buddy, the president, stop the solar proposals in their tracks because he supports oil an GW. Ya, we need to give solar all it needs in the way of incintives, it will still be cheaper than the oil war!

Actually, oil, gas, wind and coal are vastly cheaper than solar even if you added in the oil ware. These power source actually make money.

Remember, investing is solar means a 30% loss of investment - if things go perfectly. If you added in cost other factors like cost overruns, misinstallations, and out right curruption, the solar "investment" is a joke. Currently the joke is on the public, because we are paying the tab thru subsidies.

Mr. Wahler, I agree I would love to see Mr. Berry's support for his claims...and shred it with facts. Every ROI I have seen, particularly in CA, is less than 13 years, and I've seen them as low as 4 years for some commercial systems with higher rates. The warantees on modules are 20+ years, and no one is really sure how long they will last, even PV made in the 60's (with 50 year old technology) still produce power. Even with these subsidies, the state makes it back in many ways through economic activity and taxes generated by that activity. And you know what?...money shouldn't be the only factor for your kids sake...get your head out of your pants, and smell the sunshine.

To Jim Berry: Due to the effects produced by increasing carbon levels in the atmosphere, water, and soil, (directly attributable to mans use of fossil fuels ini the past 50 years), we are now faced with global warming. Further, we may be seeing the effects of our overconsumption of these fuels as an individual nation, contributing to loss of our economic, social and political standing in World markets and in how we are viewed by citizens of other nations. One fact is clear. We need jobs in America and many of those needed jobs can come from Conservation and Renewable technologies being applied here by American Workers replacing the fossil fuels imported from overseas.

To Jim Berry: Would you care to explain and back up the "vastly cheaper" and "30% loss" assertions? I don't think you are right. There is no fuel cost over the life of solar. Overruns, misinstallations, and corruption where? It's pretty easy to install, really. It is already a mature industry. I pay $5.35/watt. With a 20 year lifespan and no upkeep, solar has powerful advantages over other renewables.
Also, where I am, Hilo, wind isn't an option (I tried), but the sun does shine (sometimes).

My old Arco M51 PV modules, bought in 1980, still produce power within specs. Who knows what the live of PVs may be? My original system paid for itself upon installation by avoiding utility connection costs, and is now working fine, with additions, at a different site. Currently grid connected systems should pay for themselves in 20 years or less, even quicker if electric rates increase or if the utility pays a premium for your power.

When Arnie got into office and he was put there by the Right Wing, he seemed to been totally used and manipulated by them to do their bidding and became very unpopular. It seems the guy has woken up a bit and now has a mind of his own especially considering his support for renewable energy and the 1 million solar roofs and his acknowledgement of global warming etc. These are all things the Right Wing creationists fanatical lunatics that have seized power strongly object too. I think Arnie has made a great contribution lately and in some ways did more than perhaps anyone expected. I also forseen that the 1 million solar roofs program as soon as it shows some success and great opportunities will encourage many others to do the same.
