"By leasing space that is ready to go, we can get this fuel into New England before the heating season begins, and help relieve shortages we've seen the last few years."

How much CO2 and other polutants does this produce per BTU (including all energy required to harvest and ship the pellets)? On what basis is this carbon neutral? For example, is it based on the assumption that a) the wood wood will soon release its carbon back into the atmosphere no matter what (e.g., by rotting) and the only question is whether we extract the available energy from the process; or b) that the trees won't grow and extract CO2 from the atmosphere, if we don't burn wood pellets, or c) something else.

If we assume that growth of these trees is not dependent on their being burned, are we better off harvesting them for energy or to go into long-lived wood products, in which the carbon will be sequestered for centuries, if not millenia?
