Air Force Requests Bids on 18 MW Solar Energy Project

Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] The U.S. Air Force is already the largest purchaser of renewable energy credits (RECs). Now the USAF is on the way to supporting the construction of one of the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in the world.
Nellis Air Force Base will be requesting proposals for the procurement of renewable utility services from a contractor owned PV array capable of generating 18 megawatts (MW) of peak electrical energy.

The successful bidder will own, operate, maintain and repair the PV array including replacing the solar panels. The Government will acquire electrical service from the contractor through a utility service contract. The successful bidder may sell the RECs to a third party and the proposal will become a part of the contract upon decision of award. The PV array real property interest will be conveyed via a land lease. The solicitation, which is unrestricted, will be posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website, www.fbo.gov.
