How interest rate subsidies work better than capital subsidies

"The interest subsidy enticed the numerous banks to finance solar water heating systems and that in turn led to the growth of a number of manufacturers from less than six to more than 60 in 2005 in the State of Karnataka alone. The involvement of banks (both commercial and rural) ensured the sustainability of the program -- as now solar water heaters are being viewed as any other consumer product."

In my home town by birth, Pune, India, twenty years ago, I have seen Solar Water Heaters which run strictly on the heat from solar radiation with thermal syphon of the water. In India, this heater is very cheap that any middle class family can afford it and there is plenty of sun. By the way, they also have Solar Cookers. You put all food you want to cook in the cooker in the morning before going to the work; and your dinner is ready when you come back from the work. The best part of it is that it never burns.

This is real renewable energy. ie: done for the real simple reason to save money. Renewable energy in rich western countries has come to mean governement corporate charity for large corporations. Polticians are not the ones who should be making energy decisions. Engineers need to make these decisions. Right now, in North America, the most cost effective way to 'make' energy is to simply use less. We don't need V8's, incadescant lighting and substandard AC. Solar water heating can work here too. Just changing all the large buildings in the US (those that have access to cool water) to water cooled AC would save billions.

Nowadays more better the CSP system which is Concentrating Solar Power, because there beside the produced electricity with steam, when cooling it they have many liters hot water without any other investment. From that everybody coul read on th web under cps.

I do not understand that everybody find up now the old systems as a phantastic new things. I have seen about 20-25 years ago in Israel that a lot of building has a white barel which are in connection with black plastic lines where goes through cold water, what when the temperature already about 60 Celsius grade collected in the barel. So there a lot of people saved many electricities.

I'm new to the forum but I'm an advocate for a free pollution renewable energy. It's so sad that most people in this beautiful planet of ours are ignorant on how our governments together with the oil-nuclear industry are breaking our pockets and destroying our home earth. Go Solar-Hydrogen for a clean environment !!

Solar Heaters are popular in certain parts of India. Places like Bombay/Mumbai still have not been able to adapt to it on large scale, mainly because there is a lack of awareness and there isn't a major energy crisis as yet. People once again are not willing to spend a relatively large amount of money at a single time, as they don't yet comprehend the long term benefits fully.
