"Support from the Department of Energy's geothermal research program is critical for continued progress by the industry, and is also vital if the U.S. seeks to retain leadership in geothermal technology and the fast-growing world marketplace."

Why do some in the "clean energy" community support geothermal? IT IS NOT RENEWABLE! And where it might not be too bad for air quality it is disastrous for the surface of the planet. Ask any worker at a geothermal plant what they do with the poisonous "filter cake" (the contaminants that build up in piping/filters from the hot brine). This grunge is loaded with metals and other hazardous waste and then just deposited, some times on the side of rural roads.

Current technology used in the geothermal industry is NOT GOOD for the planet!
