This is a fine introductory exposition from the artists' point of view. Now, if they can get an engineering input (wind speeds, stresses, etc.) maybe they can do a really exciting installation.

It appears that the tower height is about 65' and turbine dia is 17'. Capacity could be about 10 to 20 KW -- could be Burgey turbines. These are great US made and highly efficient wind turbines and we Engineered and installed units in NJ.
I do not know how many turbines are being planned, but 20 such units might have combined capacity upto 400 KW which will be much more than the load needs of many types of lights on the bridge.
Production cost of KWH with wind has been proven to be comparable to those produced with traditional fossil powered power plants.
Also final capital cost could be shaved of by almost 50% due to available state incentives.
However, we also now the high incentives being enjoyed by fossil fuel industry.

Nicely designed and executed video - and a great idea. A loose group of friends here in the Portland (Oregon) area have been thinking along the same lines, only we have an added twist: we would place vertical axis turbines on our bridges and use the space as a testing facility to discover ways to improve VAWTs to the point of commercial viability. The VAWTs tested would be small units, and we would try various designs submitted by inventors, perhaps even starting a wind power design institute of some kind. We invite anyone interested to write us: jnewcomer@spiretech.com.
