The challenge is to make the renewable energy sector attractive to private investors, and to maintain and strengthen the interest that has been consolidated in some sectors, and extend it to others in which only timid steps have been taken so far.

You can see that Spain's energy plan will give it greater energy independence. Our country should also plan likewise. We gained land from the Spanish in the building of our nation and now it is time to gain an additional method of growth by accepting and copying what they have done. We have to be followers since we do not seem capable of being leaders in this area.

I am really do not understand, that Spain
where they have a very efficient CPS technology in Almeira as Towers, etc... that this system do not develop.
We are a Hungarian inventor and researcher team which in the last year applied for patent right for a new fluid to the "Parabolic Trough and Solar Energy Towers". In 2005 was published the invention by the WIPO under the following Nr. WO 2005/071037 A1. For further intwerset we are giving more details.
Our new system could make from the old project by a little rebuild to double the capacity of steam and electricity, for a cheaper price.

Its interesting to note that rarely does anyone mention the human health benefits gained from developing renewable energy...even though its impossible to quantify those benefits, shouldn't they at least deserve mentioning?? Living here at the tailpipe of our nation (state of Maine) we suffer from the highest rate of asthma in our country-surely a Huge benefit to all the emerging clean technologies is the predictable drop in respiratory ailments..Wouldn't most folks willingly pay extra for energy if they knew there was a direct benefit to their kids health??

More than a comment it's a question, in the Article we can read: "In solar energy, within a short space of time Spain has achieved a position of international leadership in photovoltaics, with three companies in the European top ten." Could anyone point me in the direction of those three companies? Thanks in Advance.

Well, the largest companies based in Spain in PV are Isofoton, BP Solar and Atersa (Elecnor Group). BP Solar is, of course, originally British, though it has been in Spain for around 20 years and has a huge manufacturing base there.

I do not know exactly how does the European ranking go, but I guess those three would make it to the top ten. Other companies with relevant production of solar modules are Solaria (not to confuse with the American company of the same name) and Siliken.

I have just returned from a walking trip in Spain and was most surprised to see the large number of wind generators. There seemed to be parks of hundreds of giant turbines across Aragon - a depressingly empty and barren region. On my return I did some googling and found exciting possibilities of developing concentrated solar power thermal power stations.

It seems we in Northern Europe should be developing large solar thermal stations in North African deserts. The abundant 'free' power developed there can be transported to let's say London through high voltage direct current systems with minimal losses, ten per cent being the quoted loss on very high voltage systems. Night time generation can continue through the use of molten salt storage heated up in the day. These are most exciting technologies, and I'm surprised not to have seen more prominence in the media and more investment by power companies.
