One MW Thin Film Project for Germany

Published: November 7, 2005
[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Having already closed a contract in mid-October for the construction of a solar photovoltaic (PV) plant using First Solar's thin-film modules, Germany's Phonix SonnenStrom received another large order last week -- this time from mainfrankenSolar 4 GmbH & Co. KG, a company based in Veitshoechheim, Germany. The solar electricity plant will generate a peak power output of 1.02 MW with around 16,968 solar modules. The total investment volume comes to approximately EUR 4.5 million (USD$ 5.3 million). Due to the tight schedule -- the plant is to be completed by the end of the year ready to feed into the grid --construction work on the green field plant has already begun. The solar electricity system is to be built in Burgbernheim in the District of Buchheim near Wuerzburg on a surface area of around 40,000 square meters. The Buchheim green field plant will fully comply with the criteria laid down by the Naturschutzbund Deutschland e.V. (NABU is a German association for the conservation of nature) and the Unternehmensvereinigung Solarindustrie e.V. (UVS) for green field sites that are compatible with nature.
