Some comments on the vision of the gov.

* He sees future for only 50 MW. That is only ten 5 MW turbines (REpower/multibryd) or twenty 2.5 MW (I think the largest GE has).
* In Europe we have learned that spread solitairy windturbines have a much bigger effect on the landscape than concetrated "indtustrial" windparks.

I agree with Jan de Boer, Vestas made a 4,5 mw, but why only 50 mw. the average wind is for more than 500 mw.

It's the 'not in my backyard' problem. You'll note the huge loophole they give themselves, to buy renewable power 'out of state' that way, THOSE citizens get pissed off at compromised views, while Vermont's gov. gets the reward of appearing to be 'green'. We don't have the political will, as gov. or citizens, to say, okay, I want power, and I'm willing to pay the price. Instead, we have this fantasy we can build ugly things out in some mythical 'far away' place, without having to pay millions to run the wires from here to there. Painting it pastels, ain't gonna cut it. You go where the power is generated best, to get the most effientient generation system you can, for the very reason that you don't want to have to build them all over. Vermont wants it both ways, and until we as a nation, and as a globe, realize power has it's price, we will continue to fail.

If only a small part of the Vermont Mountain area could be used for powerful wind farm generation, then perhaps Gov. James Douglas' would modify his concept of Vermont wind generation development. A substantial amount of power needs to be generated to insure energy security for Vermont.

If the governor does not make adjustments to his thinking, then it the right of the voters to find someone who will at the next elections. If would behove the Governor to act decisively and positively, knowing that he is responsible to provide leadership for his state. He could not be serious in thinking that small farm and home wind generators would be adequate to address the energy problems facing the people of Vermont.
