"By 2010, 1,300 MW of electricity could be feeding into the grid from the islands, enough to power three quarters of a million households, more than Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen combined."

We in the Western Isles are appalled at the prospect of over 500 massive wind turbines (bigger than any yet built) ruining the unspoilt wild landscape on the Isle of Lewis.
Tourism is our main earner at over £40 million per year, with 14 liners calling each year to view the landscape and archaeological sites. - all this will go.
Tony Blair opposed just a few turbines near his home but is happy to ruin our way of life.
It seems that big business and blinkered politicians are hell-bent on destroying our heritage for the sake of short-term cash.

People in the nothern isles agree with one comment in the article ie."The northernmost Scottish isles are among the most attractive locations in the UK..." Yes, for natural beauty and quality of life. The last thing on earth we need is this insane exploitation and despoliation by greedy multinational companies of the most beautiful land in the world.
Is anything anymore of value? Has it just got it's price? Who is going to stop this folly?
