Secretary of Energy for the State of São Paulo José Aníbal has confirmed participation as keynote speaker for the upcoming World Biofuels Markets Brazil (www.worldbiofuelsmarkets.com/brazil) and the co-located Biomass Power Generation Brazil (www.worldbiofuelsmarkets.com/biopowerbrazil). Secretary Aníbal will discuss the importance of bioenergy, including next generation ethanol and biomass power, in the energy future for the State of São Paulo. The two day event, taking place September 18-19 in São Paulo, will also feature the presentation of the Annual Brazilian Bioenergy Awards which recognize excellence in the field of Brazilian biofuels and biomass-to-power and highlight the outstanding work being done by all professionals from across the bioenergy supply chain.
“Given the importance bioenergy plays in the economy of São Paulo State, Secretary Aníbal will provide the conference delegates with an insightful perspective and realistic forecast on the role of biofuels and biomass power in Brazil,” said Nadim Chadhury, CEO of Green Power Conferences – producer of World Biofuels Markets Brazil and Biomass Power Generation Brazil. “Led by Secretary Aníbal, São Paulo’s forward-looking energy policy can be a model for other regions. We are honored to have him address the conference.”
Endorsed by UNICA, the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association, the conference will feature other top-level keynote speakers including Bernardo Gradin, Chairman of GraalBio, Pedro Moura Costa, Founder and President of BVRio, and Ozires Silva, Founder of Embraer, former President of Petrobras and Varig Airlines and Minister of State for Infrastructure of Brazil. More than 400 Brazilian and International bioenergy leaders are expected to attend the conferences to discuss hot topics including aviation biofuels, oil majors’ role in the industry, advanced ethanol production, agricultural sustainability, biochemicals and bioplastics, and alternative feedstocks.
The Annual Brazilian Bioenergy Awards will feature the “Brazilian Bioenergy Innovation of the Year” recognizing excellence in innovation in furthering the bioenergy sector in Brazil, and the “Brazilian Bioenergy Deal of the Year” recognizing a deal completed or advanced in the calendar year 2012 that has significantly enhanced the long term development of the bioenergy sector in Brazil. Award nominations, available to anyone in the industry, are open until 17 August.
“Brazil is a global leader in bioenergy, so it is no surprise that innovation is strong and deals are getting done across the country,” said Chadhury. “Our Bioenergy Awards will provide a much needed spotlight not only on the winners, but on the large amount of progress being made across the entire sector.”
The co-located Biomass Power Generation Brazil conference will investigate the potential of biomass-fired power and bioelectricity generation across Brazil. Biomass Power Generation Brazil will feature sessions investigating cogeneration feedstocks including sugarcane bagasse, energy crops and purpose grown biomass, wood-based biomass, and municipal solid waste. Other key issues such as biomass pellet markets, carbon emissions, policy, economics, and price dynamics will be dissected throughout the conference by speakers from federal and state government, private industry, and nonprofit environmental organizations.
Sessions during both conferences will be simultaneously translated between English and Portuguese. The full conference agenda and biographical information on speakers is available at the World Biofuels Markets Brazil (www.worldbiofuelsmarkets.com/brazil) and the Biomass Power Generation Brazil (www.worldbiofuelsmarkets.com/biopowerbrazil) websites, by following World Biofuels Markets on Twitter @wbmnews, or by joining the LinkedIn World Biofuels Markets Brazil group.
