Did you know that the Solar Energy Industries Association, better known as SEIA, is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary this week? According to Rhone Resch, on January 24, 1974, five people in Washington, DC got together in the basement of a hotel to discuss the possibility of setting up a solar association and that’s where SEIA was born.
Think of where the industry is now. Today, there are roughly 13 GW of installed solar capacity in the U.S. alone. Solar costs have dropped dramatically in recent years and the industry is projecting a 30 percent growth in 2014. Solar companies in America employ just under 120,000 people. Amazing.
To celebrate 40 years of industry growth and achievements, this Friday, January 24th is National “Shout Out for Solar” Day where anyone who supports solar is being asked to use social media to voice support for solar.
What do you do? It’s simple. Go to this link and download signs that verbalize your solar support. Then take a picture of yourself, your friend, your company, your dog or a group of people holding the sign and post it on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn or whatever social media avenue you prefer. Use the hashtag #GoSolar so it is searchable.
RenewableEnergyWorld.com had some fun taking our photos. You can see them on this blog and we will post more later. We’ve posted these on RenewableEnergyWorld.com’s Facebook page (you can post yours there, too!) and we’ll be tweeting them out on National Shout Out for Solar Day, this Friday.
