Renewables Take On Fossil Fuels: Last Day to Vote for the Readers' Choice Award

Finalists have been chosen for the Projects of the Year Awards, and now it’s time to cast your vote for the Readers’ Choice Award.

But this year is different.

Not only have we this year opened nominations to a global audience, Renewable Energy World North America is now co-located with Power-Gen International, which is where we will present the awards. This means that the renewable energy projects of the year are in the running along with coal, nuclear and gas projects of the year.  And all of them are up for our Readers' Choice Award. This is where all of you, our readers, come in.

What better way to show that renewable energy is a serious contender than to show that readers support a renewable energy project more than they support a fossil fuel project? Every vote counts.

Spread the word and cast your vote here.

So, how did we come up with these finalists? Readers submitted nominations for projects that they thought were worthy of recognition in eight catagories: solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, hydro, coal, gas and nuclear. Editors of the Renewable Energy World and Power Engineering network of publications then culled through hundreds of entries to come up with finalists.

And now, voting is open for the ninth category: Readers’ Choice. Editors will announce the winners in all nine categories on Dec. 10 during the Annual Awards Gala at the co-located Renewable Energy World North America Conference and Expo and Power-Gen International, which runs from Dec. 11 to 13 in Orlando, Fla.

Make sure you participate before voting closes on November 2nd here.

Renewable nominees include:

Solar
Solarpark Muero
Alamosa Solar Project

Wind
Spring Valley Wind Project
Settler’s Trail Wind Farm

Hydro
Chacayes Hydroelectric Generating Station
Jordan Hydroelectric Project

Biomass
Nacogdoches Generating Facility
Nocton Fen Farm

Geothermal
Hudson Ranch Power I Geothermal Project (John L Featherstone Plant)
PMU Dominica

And there are some fossil energy projects in there, too.

The Renewable Energy World and Power Engineering network of editors congratulates all of the finalists (but it probably won't come as a surprise that we here at REW are hoping a renewable energy project wins).  Vote now!

Thank you Protia for your comment. You are accurate as well. I am convinced, soon we will enter a new trend. A trend that is based on performance and real results. Wetzel Oil will be waiting for the real and serious people that take theses matters seriously. The article about wave power reminds me of ideas that sound great and get attention, but when the idea is explored, it comes out in the wash that it doesn't work or it doesn't work economically.
Stay tuned.

Thank you Timothy for your post. You hit the nail on the head. I have a new wind turbine park in my backyard. 50 story wind turbines covering my once beautiful vista. Dangerous setbacks and a total disregard for those living around them. After the utilities romancing of the majority of our county commissioners, we now have unsafe setbacks. Vesta safety setbacks for their employees? 1300 ft. Set backs from our homes? 1000ft. After we made issue of this danger Vesta/Consumers Energy took the safety manual off their website and let it happen. I believe in alternatives energy, but the wind industry is reckless with others lives and homes. The U.S. is seen as nothing more than a "cash cow" for these wind companies now that they have warn out there welcome elsewhere. It's is not sustainable, it is expensive energy in-spite of the shell game with the figures AND it is not cutting edge technology. If wind was such a great option, why haven't these developers jumped on-board sooner? Could it be the huge obscene subsidies they are now receiving? Why do we not see more of this: John Donahoe, CEO of E-bay, confirms Bloom Boxes were installed at his corporate campus nine months ago. The company says the boxes already saved them over $100,000 in electricity bills. "It's been very successful thus far. [The Bloom Boxes] have done what they said they would do," says Donahoe. The five boxes are able to produce five times as much electricity as the 3,248 solar panels that E-bay installed on its campus roofs, says the CEO. "The footprint for Bloom is much more efficient," he tells Stahl. Google, FedEx, Staples and Wal-Mart are among the first 20clients Bloom is confirming. It's just another transfer of wealth... http://peakenergy.blogspot.com/2010/02/bloom-box-energy-breakthrough.html

I just browsed the many great articles. I have this to ask. Have companies lost their focus? Isn't the whole objective of all of the bio-energy companies to provide alternatives to fossil fuels, at prices competitive with fossil fuels, so we use and accept those renewable products?

It seems that companies are winning awards, for things that have no result to me? Companies are being given huge amounts of money for what? To make a new enzyme, that doesn't make my truck fuel any cheaper? Then investors pour money into theses companies that make a fuel for $15.00 or more per gallon and wonder why they don't get a return? DAAAA?

At Wetzel Oil, we bring back common sense. We produce Renewable Diesel fuel from sewage and seed oils. We sell our fuel to truckers and others for about 40 cents cheaper than fossil diesel and still make a profit. This CEO is taking WOI to profit in less than 2 years. IS there any other CEO that can make that claim? NO. IT is because they are living off fat salaries from stock holders $$. If this is not true, then why hasn't any of the companies produced a single drop of renewable diesel or biodiesel fuel that is competitive with fossil diesel?

We need to get back to basics. Stay focused. Perform for your shareholders.

After reading, I noticed there is NOTHING concerning wave energy!
I would submit Float Inc. Offshore Ocean Energy System as a prime candidate for the capture & conversion of wave, wind, and other ancillary applications.
Please see our web site link:
Float Inc Home:http://www.floatinc.org/
Float Inc Technology: http://www.floatinc.org/Technology.aspx
I would also invite your readers to look at the ICOE 2012 conference information web link:http://www.icoe2012dublin.com/ICOE_2012/ with particular attention to Session 3.3 Hybrid System wherein Float Inc presented our OOES.

I believe that, something is better than nothing and it is the time to let the people about renewable energy advantages. If all the fuels are utilized, then nothing will remain for future generation. So everyone should under these facts and try to convince others. Let us vote for green renewable energy to avoid atmosphere pollution.
