WOW, a KIll-A-Watt meter that goes one giant step further! Now you can just plug your refrigerator or whatever into this device, turn your computer on and not even have to look at the small LED screen you have on the Kill-A-Watt meter! This is a Kill-A-Watt killer so to speak. I am all abroad! The only question I have is does it cost you to be able to monitor the Modlet from your computer? There web site does not address this as a question which seems odd to me. I do not see where there is a cost involved but then sometimes it is what people DO NOT TELL you that bites you in the butt. If you do not have to pay a monthly fee to monitor from a web browser this a a real winner!

Thanks for your question John-Dangelo. Consumers can purchase a ThinkEco modlet starter kit for $50 through themodlet.com, bestbuy.com and walmart.com. The starter kit includes one modlet, one USB gateway and access to the software for your computer and smartphone. There is NO monthly service charge for the software.

Experience from Kenya shows that in an industrial setup by simply changing the mind set (thorough awareness creation on energy efficiency & conservation) of energy users, energy conservation savings up to 40% maybe realized. Please note the key word here is 'conservation'. The concept of 'behavioral psychology into energy efficiency' is practical and has a potential to achieve much more if properly utilized. This of course does not preclude the need to adopt and implement proven energy efficiency and conservation measures. The Modlet is obviously an interest gadget for energy efficiency and conservation and affordable at $50!

Interesting program. The integration of behavioral psychology into energy efficiency would help to save more energy. When people get motivation, it is a lot easier to do that.

The modlet is a major breakthrough. I cannot wait to get mine and be able to program an outlet(s) and then monitor it from a web browser. What is great is that you can monitor, I think, up to 100 of these little things with just one modlet.

Energy efficiency is always #1 because to me because the more energy efficient one becomes the more energy one has for other valuable things one can do like charge an electric vehicle instead of wasting that energy on say phantom loads. Innovation is exciting and energy efficiency cannot really be separated from RE. Almost all of us could be energy independent and "off grid" if only we could understand the power of NOT having to create energy that we really do not need, but use the energy that we do create on site to do the basic things we need to do to function and survive in this modern world without any sacrifice in comfort or lifestyle.

We have a 5 kW PV array and we generate about 800 kWH a month. However, because we are so energy efficient our actual usage is about 250 kWh per month. We use the excess to charge an 100% EV and still have extra! Nothing like "Free fuel" to propel you down a country road! We where giving the excess to the power company for $.27/kWh which was and still is highway robbery.
