The last few months have been kind of a bummer for solar with the end of the 1603 grant program and bickering about international trade. And many of us are still recovering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Solyndra Disorder).

But with the annual summer solstice next week comes hope. It marks the official first day of summer and we enjoy more sunshine than on any other day of the year. It’s a reminder that the solar industry really has a lot to celebrate:

That’s why I’m proud to be on the host committee for The Solar Foundation’s (TSF) 2nd Annual Summer Solstice Party on Friday, June 22 on the rooftop of the IBEW Building in Washington, DC. We’ll be raising some glasses of solar-powered wine underneath some Sharp solar panels, eating delicious food and enjoying some great music with industry leaders, advocates and supporters.

The other day, a friend gave me a good reason why we need to celebrate solar more. As an industry veteran, he was bemoaning the fact that the industry has moved away from what made it fun – working together to create a clean energy future. I believe that’s still possible to do, even while scaling the industry into an economic force in the United States and globally.

That’s why Tigercomm and I (and Renewable Energy World) are supporting this event. We’ll be there hosting “Scaling Green on the Scene,” a video booth where guests can share their thoughts on why we should be celebrating solar and how we can continue to grow the industry.
