Yup, the cycles between success and failure are getting more frequent with less and less time in between. This shows that renewable energy will soon be everyday, not just some fad. People, I think, are finally getting it and once every home has some type of system, the negativity will slowly diminish.

The are tons of improvements yet to be made in solar technology. Now that the PC, and office equipment generally, has run its course, scientists and hobbyists should put their energy into solar. Imagine if millions of smart people where focused on solar technology: the results would be impressive.

The solar version of Moore's Law needs to be realistic. It is not yet certain that 2011 will surpass 2010 in installed projects.

Bman,
I am new to solar but have worked for years in value engineering projects and believe that process mapping and 6 sigma DMAIC techniques can be used to reduce costs. Please list the top 3 or 5 areas where you feel solar costs are higher than say other Renewables.

i believe with out ? that we will surpass 2010 with installed solar we have contracted to install or installed 240 MW in the last 160 days in only 3 states. We just opened for Biz in VT, RI, DK and MA is red hot for Solar right now. What gets to me is that when residents of Canada contacted me inquireing about Solar and I considered helping them, the canadian Gov got a hold of me with stipulations on what % of my components were made there, what % needed to be purchased ther and what % of my work force had to be born and raised there. They pretty much stipulated me right out of the Country. (however I do use local installers where ever I go if their credentials meet the highest levels)Now in the US many of our own are standing across the street with their phillips screw driver watching Canada Install 100% Canadian or Chinese parts bought in Canada and a 100% Canadian work force, I have no problems with anyone from any Country, Solar is a great thing for the World where ever it is installed, but lets be fair to each other, if you stipulate us then we should demand equal stipulations.
