Fossil fuels can be replaced much more rapidly than is generally realized.

Black Swans are pointing the way. An example is Andrea Rossi's Energy Catalyst. This is a highly improbable innovation with enormous potential impact.

If it produces power at a cost close to the penny per kilowatt hour claimed,it signals cheap green energy has arrived.

Several competitors are in the works.

See Energy Catalyst and Black Swans at www.aesopinstitute.org

Now, if Ted Turner could understand how much more rapidly replacement of fossil and radioactive fuels can be accomplished, he might decide to help it happen.

End the direct cash subsidies and the mandated above market rates, and the wind business goes as quiet as those turbine blades on a hot summer day - or as they did in the UK on those cold winter days.

It's just time to level the playing field. End subsidies for coal (including fly-ash and Superfund cleanup), nuclear, nat. gas, oil, and renewables.

Let's see how fossil fuels can compete on a level playing field. Even with the existing infrastructure, wind, solar, fuel cells, and biofuels will gain the majority of market share...

Dear hurryup, LOVE your optimism, but we are about 110 years into these government backed fossil fuels, and renewable energies only have a little toe hold in this massive power generation field.I'm all for getting off of fossil fuel ASAP.Most specifically ... IMPORTED OIL HAS GOT TO GO. But we have to wean ourselves from that what hurts us the most; imported oil. I'd favor ending the oil, then coal subsidy at the same rate that we add to renewable energy subsidy until we approach a clean energy society.

Almost forgot. I love Ted Turner's attitude. Now why can't we get someone like him as a national leader? Elected or otherwise. You've got my vote Ted, whenever you want it.

YOU all talk the talk but how many of you still have a gas powered car? how many of you still rely of coal for electricity?
anything you do to change that is a step,no matter how small,is still a step in the right direction.
reduce your own footprint first.

Dear TITAN21, I now live in a house half the size that I used to. I drive about 80% less than I used to. I am researching electric bicycles for all of my local trip, to leave the 3000 lb. car at home.Have switched out all my incandescent light bulbs. So, I am trying to reduce my footprint a lot.I agree with you whole heartedly.

we need to phase out these subsidies slowly so we don't crash the economy. Many have been in place for over 40 years. As soon as we start it will help a lot.
We also need to start taxing pollution with Cap and Trade or other means. As we get to the true cost we will see clearly how low cost Renewable Energy is but we still can't waste it so being more efficient helps everything.

I use only LED lights, I made my home much more efficient by using Passive Solar, like solar screens, radiant barrier, inflector window covers on the inside, solar tube lights and high efficiency appliances.

Our 4Kw GRID tied solar system, runs our home, LEAF 100% electric and I still get credits back from the utility all year long. It was affordable and is paying off each sunny day.

I tip my hat to those of you who made the effort.
Here in Quebec electricity is still cheaper then most of the continent and the cost of gas is probably one of the highest. that said the sale of hybrid cars has grown. we are finally going to see a few fully electric cars on the road this year but not as may as one might hope.

There is a small electric car plant in St Jerome Quebec called Zenn ( http://www.zenncars.com/ ) and the have managed to get contracts in other countries. the kicker is that they are having trouble getting certification here.

Dear Steve Poppitz
take a took at BIONX electric bicycles. i own one and love it. you can get the kit on line and retrofit a bike or ask your local bike shop if they have them.one shop i called was categoric and refused the even consider the concept, others had heard of it but never assembled one. i eventually found a shop that had a demonstrator on the floor and allowed me a test run.

TITAN21, Just googled up BIONX and plan to visit 2 local shops soon. Thanks.I'm 55y.o. and don't have the 'gitty-up' I once did.I've been thinking that getting an e-bike would get me out of my 3000+ pound Toyota for a lot of local trips.Guess I need to put a grocery basket on my cycle soon.

bicycles are the most efficient and cost effective transportation. PLUS it helps your heath. An electric assist is very helpful if you go a little too far or are going against the wind. Some even have regen braking so you can add power back.

and bicycle are FUN, even for us old geezers. My car weighs about 3400lbs. and has all kinds of expenses. My bicycle weighs about 40 lbs. doesn't require a license, registration or insurance, hasn't had a repair in 2 years(and that one cost $12 I think) and cost .ooo5 times as much as my car. HEY ! We should subsidize bicycles.

As soon as i have enough cash i would follow the way of jim-stack 36988,bikes do not do it for me in hot south florida summers, but solar panels ,and an electric car sound great deal, besides solar patio showers and solar oven
technology is here ,we only need the money!
i had post to facebook more than 15 new electric cars coming up late this year all around the world,it is definetly our future
hope we can combine them with solar and wind power generation!

Dear DMMELLOW, I concure. I'll be using my bicycle to extend the life of my Toyota. And when the ole gas burner has had it's last breath, I'll get an eV as well. And with their expected life span, it maybe my last car.I think that we will combine the storage in our eV with the peak load needed in our homes in the future.

Stop OIL subsidies and imports(we import 50% of our OIL at $1 Billion a day)
Electric Vehicles like Cell phones and PC's will come down in cost. Also great is the new EVs are being made in the USA providing US jobs. Tesla in CA has sold 100 Million in Technology to Toyota to make the RAV4 electric again. Nissan is making the LEAF in Symrna TENN and next year may be able to make 150,000 vehicles a year. Also GM is making the Spark EV with A123 batteries in MI. For the Focus EV and a few others coming up soon.

The new advanced battery EVs can provide V2G Vehicle to GRID storage, regulation and back up power since they sit unused 20 hours a day. What a great resource. look on line to see how at v2g-10.com a few trials are being run right now.

I don't see any progress on cutting the Subsidies ! Congress fails to stop anything except the Solar subsidies that they seem to worry about.
We need to educate them to the dirty subsidies that have no end in sight. Nuclear is the biggest of all.
