It is no surprise the amount of quality control Trina has put into making PV modules. The finances to create a facility like this, then to add the high tech equipment is the other end of the supply chain spectrum that adds to the costs of the $/watt outcome. SolarWorld in Oregon also did a similar factory tour in Oregon for Solar contractors. It is an imperative step for suppliers for transparency of their factories bringing confidence in products all the way down to the consumer. Appreciate you taking the time to take notes Tor. This insight may help with confidence in purchasing Chinese PV products at a bargain rate.

Now that I have been ranking on the quality of production in China let me say that there are some top tier PV module manufacturers that are producing quality products that are as good as any. But don't let the fact that a few manufacturers are providing a quality product lull anyone into believing that therefore all manufacturers are turning out the same high quality product.

Hello, Fred/Tor. Interesting blog-post.

Did they ever mention anything about their planned development of 20% efficiency cells? Will that take a lot of new investment, and do they then have to rebuild the whole factory-setup? And how long will that eventually take?

GL.

Hey, David,

They didn't specifically mention the 20% cells. As mentioned above, they're already expanding their manufacturing, as well as R&D facilities there. Perhaps this construction is for the new cells. I believe they're going to be finished with the expansion in 2012, if I remember correctly. It's on their web site.

As to expansion beyond that... I'll be writing about that in my next blog post.

Thanks for commenting.
