The article points out another reason for national health care and tort reform. The insurance mafia produces legal contracts most contractors need a lawyer to decipher and then balk at providing the coverage we think we have. It's too convoluted and filled with pitholes to extract more of your hard earned dollar. The business of a contractor is to provide a service to a customer utilizing their knowledge and skills of their trade. The business of the insurance and lawyer mafia is a parasitic existance. Meanwhile the regulatory agencies are absent (except to threaten)while unlicensed scamers compete with the contractor who is in compliance. Let's start with National health care and get rid of both the injury liability and workmans comp mafia insurance.

Great Article that provides solid information we need to hear over and over. When time is at our feet we can forget small details thinking we serving the customer to do a excellent job. When these type of circumstances occur we all loose; our image, all of our profit, and when you are a small company, this could be the end. Take the time and make sure your insurance is up to date and general liability is provided. Perhaps you are on those part-timers who forget, assign this detailed information to someone who is organized. Make yourself a "Check List," of everything that needs to be done for a project and you will be a better manager and feel safe you are covered. You never know what can happen. :-)mike

Great article,

I appreciate the opportunity to learn from other business's experiences with insurance. It is a vitally important practical element to contractor operations. Most clients don't accept bids from companies with a Ned Flanders approach to insurance. Granted, all insurance is technically a form of gambling, but prudent business owners hedge their bets.
