Thanks for the straight talk, Ken. But I am wondering what your impression is of the latest amorphous silicon thin film product line from Oerlikon? They are reporting efficiency and cost very close or better than First Solar.

How do these thin films take the heat? I'm thinking of using them in a 2 pass air heater, in part to form the absorber plate of the ari heater.

I know that thin films are used in the pans of standing seam roofing and are sometimes paired with in-roof water heating systems. For typical peaked roofing (mostly, but not exclusively residential) this suggests a way forward by bundling benefits into a necessity, the roof.

My point is to take that to commercial/industrial, low profile roofing, where square footage is an accomplished fact. Add daylighting and low profile buildings can harvest light for the shop floor, process hot air (along with incidental space conditioning & heat recovery). PV and/or SWH on (as) the absorber plate rounds out the mix.

This would reduce G&A electric and contribute to direct process energy. Low margin and high energy costs would shift towards higher margin and lower energy cost. Transmission/logistics would minimize and utilities still have public service obligation.
