NABCEP PV Technical Sales Certification
The NABCEP PV Technical Sales Certification is targeted to solar sales professionals responsible for the sales process and the non-installation aspects of commissioning residential and light commercial solar electric systems. The credential is aimed at technical sales representatives responsible for site analysis, financial analysis, initial system design, and an ethical, accurate presentation of the PV systems’ electrical, financial, and environmental performance projections. The PV industry has welcomed the NABCEP PV Technical Sales Certification because no matter how well a PV system may be installed, the consumer will not be satisfied if the sales person or designer over promises performance or provides inadequate site and structural analysis. NABCEP offers the PV Technical Sales Certification so that consumers of PV systems can have full confidence that the sales, installation, and commissioning processes are being conducted/managed by a competent professional. The installer credential is widely viewed as the "gold standard" in the industry and an ever growing list of employers, consumers, public benefits programs and bid documents insist on NABCEP certification for the lead installer. The PV Technical Certification is expected to offer the same value in the non-installation arenas of: site assessment, electrical and financial performance prediction and analysis; and proposal writing. As with all NABCEP programs the Job Task Analysis (JTA) and exam were produced by a volunteer group of industry experts from a wide spectrum of the PV industry which insures that the content is relevant and current. Candidates for this certification will be required to demonstrate a combination of real-world on the job; sales, design, or analysis experience along with education on the aspects of the JTA. The deadline for applications for the first administration of the NABCEP PV Technical Sales Certification is rapidly approaching - the date is December 10, 2010. While at the same time I'm at a disadvantage because while I have a certificate in applied sciences - renewable energy technology from one of the premier RET programs in the country, I don't and can't have the NABCEP technical sales certification.
There should be a way of bridging this gap.
