Nice post, Lisa. I'm working on a story about university programs in renewable energy. Are utilities looking for straight engineers or are there specialized skills that GOLD kids need? If there are specialized skills, what are they and where can they go to get them?

Thanks Jenn. John indicated that internships are really key. I think he said his son did 3-4 internships in the industry before landing the job he wanted.

Jennifer

The electricity transmission and distrubution grid is the integration of generation and consumption. I think this maybe an aspect to bear in mind in the development of education programmes. Is there an need for generalists to work on integrating the work of specialists or links between programmes to develop such skill?

The internships idea is very important. To go back a step, for education courses how useful are site visits to industry or real projects and when should these visits occur during a course. When I did my MSc in renewables I found the site visit in each module really informative.

Nice article Elisa. A promising future for the New Entrants into the Energy space with practical exposure. I also think that the internship is a good idea as they get some on real issues, provided the internship gives them the needed exposure to the industry challenges and mold them good.
