Smart Grid

A smart grid will teach, electrons to flow,
Round and round about, to where they ought to go,
Smart people are required to make a thinking grid,
Sending current where its needed from where it is fed.

A smart grid would be wonderful for our growing land,
To prevent current black-outs which can get out of hand,
A grid must select where to take and where to send,
Power from all sources to be made into a blend.

Different sources taken every time of day,
Wind, solar, hydro, to make all ok,
Global warming tells us, we must now decrease,
Burning of fossil fuels, which harmful fumes release.

Smart grids are needed, to help with these solutions,
Selecting for utilities, our power institutions,
Currents travel fast so the smart grid must insure,
The correct path is taken, to keep us all secure.

That truly is delightful, Adrian. I'm going to forward that on to the academic gurus at Cincinnati State for their enjoyment.

Adrian - great poem......every little bit gets the word out. You are certainly on the right track. Becasue solar is a distributed source of power it is TOTALLY different from the fossil fueled world. As a result it needs:

1. Education to help people to understand what it is and why it is different
2. A Smart grid to move the distributed power to where it is needed
3. Storage to optimize the operation of the smart grid.

Maybe a poem about the "Big Three" :)

Here's to a poetry MFA leading to an interest/career in renewable energy. I started out with the same degree, which, though various twists of fate, lead me to specialize in solar/renewable energy copy writing, as well as continued freelance poetry writing. All of you poetry MFA students out there reading this (ha, ha)--you never know where life will lead you!
