Investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy are essential to our economic security.

The US became the dominant economy of the 20th century because of huge investments in infrastructure. At the end of the 19th century we built more miles of railroad track than the rest of the world combined. In the middle of the 20th century we built more miles of roads than the rest of the world combined. Those investments and others made our manufacturing industries the most efficient in the world -- which allowed us to continually increase wages and our standard of living.

If we want to create good paying jobs in the 21st century, then we must become the most energy efficient country in the world. That will require massive infrastructure investments to reduce consumption and to build more MWs and BTUs of renewable energy than the rest of the world combined.

The vision and support of US President towards Energy Efficiency goals deserve lots of appreciation. I am sure America will lead the global clean environment economy. I am confident all the other countries will soon work on achieving their clean environment goals and present a "Clean Future".

I am thrilled that we have a President who recognizes the need for renewable energy and energy efficiency. Although the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and the Environment and Public Works Committee have made great strides, it's critical that congress moves swiftly to enact comprehensive clean energy legislation.

Energy Audits are a great way for homeowners to find ways to save money on their energy bills. And these government programs are a great source for jobs. We've trained the majority of Energy Auditors in Austin using the Building Performance Institute's standards. These same standards have been recommended for the Home Star (Cash for Caulkers) program. I hope programs like the one in Austin spread throughout the country.
