This is great, Jeremy. So happy to hear positive news regarding solar energy coming out of Indiana, my home state. I'm all for symbolism, too. Keep up the good work!

Jeremy,
Good to see you get your hands "dirty". I'm in east central Indiana. I'm fairly good with wrench and meter, let me know if I can help. Uhhh, you might want to check out INrea, you might find it interesting. :-) New members always welcome. INrea is a lot more"visible".

Hi Jeremy;
Great points, with our muffled cars and discreet wall-plugs, we have really been allowed to forget just how much power (energy slaves,really) we've been treated to. Consciously making them visible again is a big step towards helping people realize what we're getting.

You suggested that these two panels you mounted don't amount to all that much, and most folks wouldn't disagree, but I just wanted to point out that this 270 peak watts is ostensibly enough to power some 20 13w Compact Fluorescents, which might be two classrooms worth, or could run about 8 of the laptops I'm typing this message on, drawing 22-28 watts nominally.

Anyway, that's not to downplay the importance of having this visible example of Renewable Energy available to that school and community, and how instructive it was for you to be up in the air, literally with the nuts and bolts of the thing. Thanks for the post!

G'day Jeremy,
Nice posting and great that this work continues across the nation - even where "it doesn't make sense". Kudos to Alex! As you know, the costs of traditional coal sources are much higher than what we pay for our electricity - which sadly is where the majority stop looking further. Even if people are still in denial about climate change and the atmospheric implications of putting more CO2 into the atmosphere, other impacts are very real, and really scary. Ocean acidification isn't getting enough press. Every school should get a copy of Kilowatt Ours - maybe something you could work on as you do each school: http://www.kilowattours.org/about.php
For more on ocean acidification, this is "good" watching:http://www.aseachange.net/
Definitely review these for your book.
Best,
James
