By Jane Weissman

"Green" jobs are the foundation for the new clean energy sector emerging across the country. Join us for a unique and timely conference on "New Ideas in Educating a Workforce in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency." This national conference will take place on March 19 and 20, 2008 at Hudson Valley Community College (outside of Albany), New York.

You can register and read the full program on line.

But, register soon…the deadline for the lower registration rate is fast approaching.  Registration for the conference will increase after February 15.

This event will give you the most current information on instructional strategies, curricula development, and best practices for training in the renewable energy and energy efficiency fields.  It also offers a great opportunity to network with US and international educators and organizations.

There will be 16 conference sessions covering topics such as New Approaches to Course Delivery; Designing Training for Different Audiences; Lessons Learned from Training Programs; Hands-On Laboratories; Resources to Start or Improve Energy Programs; Green Jobs Corps; Training the Electrical Trades and many more sessions.

Plenary sessions include presentations by Roger Bezdek, author of the new report Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency:  Economic Drivers for the 21st Century; Dr. Tom Starrs from PPM Energy describing how renewable energy markets are undergoing rapid expansion; and Dr. James McKenney from the American Association of Community Colleges addressing the role of Community Colleges in meeting our nation's current and future workforce needs.

Prior to the start of the Conference, there will be six technical workshops offered on Tuesday, March 18, 2008.  Workshop topics include Photovoltaic Systems and the National Electrical Code; Solar Hot Water Education; Wind Energy Science for Educations; Criterion-Referenced Testing; and Nuts and Bolts of Ethanol and Biofuels-Hydrogen and Fuel Cells.

Register now.  Space is limited.

The conference is sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and organized by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council, the Partnership for Environmental Technology Education, and Hudson Valley Community College.
