LDK Reaches 1 GW of Wafer Production Capacity

California, United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]

LDK Solar Co., Ltd announced that its wafer plant has reached the milestone of 1 gigawatt (GW) of annualized production capacity.

"We are pleased to achieve one of the fastest capacity ramps within the solar industry as we expand our production capabilities to meet the continued strong demand from our growing global customer base."

-- Xiaofeng Peng, Chairman and CEO, LDK

The expansion to 1 GW of production capacity is in line with the company's previously announced plans to reach a target annualized wafer production capacity of up to 1.2 GW by the end of 2008, 2.2 GW by the end of 2009 and 3.2 GW by the end of 2010.

"I would like to congratulate our team on their remarkable speed in expanding wafer production capacity and their success in reaching the 1.0 GW milestone ahead of schedule," said Xiaofeng Peng, chairman and CEO of LDK. "We are pleased to achieve one of the fastest capacity ramps within the solar industry as we expand our production capabilities to meet the continued strong demand from our growing global customer base."

This news follows last week's announcement that LDK awarded a US $220 million contract to Applied Materials Inc. to provide LDK with precision wafering systems to support its next phase of production expansion. Applied's systems are scheduled to begin shipping to LDK's facility in Xinyu, China in early 2009.

Kristjan,
Oh - it's a few months since they dumped chemicals?

Oh, well then I guess, it's all cleaned up then.

Have you ever cleaned up a toxic waste land in a few months? I mean what exactly is your point?
