The electric seems like it will becoming in the next couple of years.
Most large car companies are doing serious research into electric vehicles.
Here is a list of some I know are doing some research.
Ford EV
GM EV
Subaru EV
Mitsubishi EV
Toyota PHEV


Power companies need to develop power production to load matching. The ability to store energy until its needed. This will give the utility companies the ability to maximize the benifits of renewable energy into the power grid. Some wind farms have to turn a few of the wind generator out of wind because of the constraints of the power grid.
