Plans to develop six offshore wind farm projects with a combined generation capacity of 3000 megawatts (MW) at locations off the coasts of the Spanish Atlantic provinces of Cadiz, Huelva and the Mediterranean province of Castellon have been unveiled by Iberdrola Renewables.
The time frame for commissioning the sites is between 2011 and 2015. The group also plans to add 200 MW of offshore wind power capacity in the United Kingdom.
Iberdrola has submitted planning applications for the six 489-MW developments to Spain’s Ministry of Industry requesting that offshore sites be reserved to enable the company to conduct studies prior to applying for permits to build the facilities.
The time frame for commissioning the sites is between 2011 and 2015. The group also plans to add 200 MW of offshore wind power capacity in the United Kingdom, via the 167-MW West of Duddon Sands project and the 35-MW Shell Flats wind farm.
