Energy efficiency and conservation are much less visible (both physically and in the media) than renewable generating technologies such as wind and solar. However, E & C are at least as important as wind and solar in averting further counterproductive investment in fossil fuel and nuclear generation. Smart metering and demand response technologies can also help power consumers become better informed about their consumption patterns and costs.

It's good to see an article focused on the wide-ranging benefits and potential of these technologies.

I wonder why energy efficiency doesn't click when consumers are shopping for Solar PV systems. They complain about the high upfront cost, but when you look at their energy usage, their energy costs are so high because they don't think about saving energy. Thinking about energy efficiency is the first milestone people who are actively searching for a clean energy system.
