"The notion that wind power and the other clean energy sources are dividing lines in Massachusetts either in terms of politics or region ... or both ... is an entirely mistaken and counterproductive idea. Instead, what we see in this survey is a clear example of Massachusetts citizens 'leading the leaders.'"

The wind has been blowing in the Cape area for millions of years. Common sense would dictate that if Massachusetts wants to be a leader in clean energy, they should be attempting to make use of this energy source. Coal and oil are not going to last forever and it is only logical to plan ahead and to make a committment to new energy sources.

adrianakau@aol.com

Interesting that 84 per cent of citizens up in Mass appear to have common sense and the ability to think logically about their future. Considering the cost of various feedstocks for power, doesn't it seem logical that 'wind' is a heck of a lot cheaper (i.e. "free") when compared to the end costs of coal, oil, natural gas, and especially nuclear power resources. Also, doesn't it seem more logical to develop a generation infrastructure that's 'simple' to build and maintain, compared to something as complex as a coal or oil-fired thermal steam plant, or as intricate as a nuclear reactor-powered steam plant ? If I was the CEO of a public utility, wouldn't it be wiser to develop generation systems that actually might CUT the cost of power to patrons, rather than constantly increasing it ? One would think the fully loaded cost of operating efficient wind turbines -- even when installed a few miles offshore -- would be cheaper than comparable sources fired by coal or petroleum, and offer the very tangible benefits of NO pollution. That's a major win-win for a utility. More and more public utility CEOs are figuring this out, too, so look for more offshore and onshore wind projects, simply because they clearly make social and economic sense.
